THE
SHOPPING STREETS
Only
recently, in the 1960's did Marmaris become a touristic centre.
Before this it was a fishing town, but with the coming of tourism
many fine shops were opened. The new jewellery stores, carpet
and kilim shops, markets, greengrocers and restaurants gave to
Marmaris on added beauty.

LOCAL
BAZAAR
Families
who make their living from agriculture sell their goods either
in local bazaars or to green grocers. Almost every family has
their own land together with some sheep, goats, cows and donkeys.
Home made butter, cheese and yoghurt are also sold in the bazaar.
Spending some time in the local bazaar on Fridays, seeing different
kinds of vegetable, fruit and cheap colorful clothes might be
a very interesting experience.

There
is lovely countryside around Marmaris and every morning, yatchs
and boats of all sizes set out on day trips taking passengers
to see Truva, the Phosphorescent Cave, Amos, Kumlubük and the
Island of Nimara, which is also known as Cennet (Paradise) Island.
There are also day trips from Marmaris to Dalyan, with a sailing
time of about three hours, and there is regular daily ferry service
to Rhodes.
